Wishing you peace, hope, comfort, joy, and all good things this holiday! Cheers to not letting diabetes get in the way of enjoying special days with cherished loved ones.
Here are three tips to help you maintain balance while embracing your favorite holiday moments:
Practice mindful indulgence – Enjoy your favorite treats by being present for the full experience: pay attention to the texture, flavor, and aroma of your food as you eat. Observe any memories or emotions that arise as you pass dishes of family favorites around the table. This will help you slow down, stay in tune with your hunger and fullness cues, and truly savor each bite.
Don’t skip meals in anticipation of future meals – Skipping meals can cause blood sugar fluctuations, interfere with medications, and make it harder to eat mindfully later. A healthier way to prepare for indulgent meals is to eat consistently and take periodic movement breaks throughout the day.
Practice Self-Care – It’s important to stay in tune with your emotional and physical needs, even and especially on holidays. Check in with yourself periodically, take breaks when needed, and don`t be afraid to enforce your personal boundaries.

Foot care is a vital aspect of diabetes management, and during the winter months, it`s especially important to keep an eye on your feet!
Save this post so you can easily reference the following tips and keep your feet healthy all season long:
🧦 Keep feet warm and dry, avoiding direct heat. Wear insulated, moisture-wicking socks and waterproof shoes. Avoid heating pads or hot water bottles, which can cause burns if you have reduced sensation.
🧴 Moisturize, but not between your toes. Apply lotion daily to prevent dry, cracked skin, but skip the areas between your toes to reduce the risk of fungal infections.
👀 Inspect your feet daily. Check for cuts, blisters, redness, or swelling. Use a mirror or ask for help if you have trouble seeing the bottoms of your feet.
🚶 Stay active. Physical activity improves circulation to your feet. Even light exercises like walking or yoga can make a big difference!
🔍 Monitor blood sugar closely. Keeping your blood sugar in range helps promote the healing of wounds and reduces the risk of complications.
✈️ Pack a foot care kit if traveling. Include essentials like lotion, clean socks, nail clippers, and any prescribed foot care items to stay consistent with your routine while on the go.
Your feet carry you through every season—don’t forget to take care of them this winter! ❄️
